Centre For Alternative Technology (CAT)

CAT Mid WalesSpecial holiday activities where kids can learn how to reduce their impact on the earth. The programme includes interactive theatre, hands-on workshops, co-operative games, bug and slug hunts and kaleidoscopic video shows.

Activities take place from 11am until 4pm in the Strawbale Theatre at CAT and vary from day to day. Activities are included in the entry price to CAT.

A day of presentations, discussion and activities on the theme of sustainable science. Students on CAT's MSc course present cutting-edge research in the fields of sustainable energy and architecture.

Take a guided tour with one of our staff members for a personal insight into the Centre for Alternative Technology. Tours at 2pm daily The Centre is 3 miles north of Machynlleth on the A487 to Dolgellau and is clearly sign-posted.

The Talyllyn Railway

Talyllyn Railway Mid WalesTal-y-Llyn is located at the Tywyn terminus narrow gauge lines The Talyllyn Railway is a historic narrow-gauge steam railway, set in the beautiful Mid-Wales countryside. Running from Tywyn to Abergynolwyn and Nant Gwernol, the line passes the delightful Dolgoch Falls and there are excellent forest walks at Nant Gwernol. Mawddach Nature Reserve

Mawddach Nature ReservesMawddach Nature Reserve 2 Reserves in the Mawddach Valley which have beautiful walks through woods and shrub land, there are many different varieties of birds including Pied Flycatchers, Wood Warblers, Buzzards are also there throughout the seasons Opening times: Information centre open during Easter and from Whitsun to September, 11am to 5pm. Site open at all times. Location: Abergwynant Lodge, Dolgellau, Gwynedd, LL40 1YF.

Coed y Brenin

Coed Y Brenin ForestCoed y Brenin Is a scenic forest park, there are a number of family walks. Also it is renowned for its first class mountain bike trails there is also a cafe and cycle shop with sales and repairs.

Dolgellau is the nearest town Take the A470 north from Dolgellau and the Coed y Brenin forest park appears on the left after 5 miles or so. Park at the visitors centre.

Snowdon Mountain Railway

The Railway operates from Llanberis Station on the A4086, 71/2 miles from Caernarfon. It is also less than 15 minutes drive from the main A55/A5 junction at Bangor. The nearest BR station is at Bangor 9 miles away. There are regular buses direct from Bangor and Caernarfon and in the summer months from Llandudno, Beddgelert and Betws-y-Coed.

Fairbourne Railway and Barmouth Ferry

Travel the Fairbourne Light Railway along the beautiful coast and join the ferry across to
Barmouth.

unique hand crafted items for your home, garden and gifts for others.


Talented craftspeople can be seen producing a range of quality items ranging from
traditional, rustic and contemporary. Visitors to the Craft Centre will see the Craftspeople at
work and can buy directly from them.

The perfect place for very special, yet slightly unusual,
items for your home and gifts for others.

Choose from unique Celtic and contemporary jewellery, leatherwork, hand carved candles,
traditional wooden toys, ceramics and pottery, herbal lotions and remedies, hand-blown
glass, rustic furniture, hand made designer cards and turned wood. Many of the
Craftspeople now also invite you to roll up your sleeves and have a go at making your own
crafts.

King Arthur's Labyrinth An Underground Storytelling Adventure

Sail underground, through the great waterfall, and deep inside the spectacular caverns of the
Labyrinth and far back in time. Once inside the Labyrinth, your hooded boatman guides you
through tunnels and vast caverns, whilst you enjoy tales of King Arthur and other ancient
Welsh legends. Stories of dragons, of giants, of battles and many more are told, complete
with dramatic scenes, sound and light effects. Cool when Hot and Dry when Wet, this is the
perfect all-weather attraction.

Aberdovey

Aberdyfi is a thriving little harbour resort set within the Snowdonia National Park, where the
river Dyfi meets the blue waters of Cardigan Bay. Aberdyfi has watersports galore - sailing,
sailboarding, rowing, canoeing, fishing and boat trips. In the summer, there are yachting
regattas and other water spectacles along with family entertainment on its award-winning
beaches. Aberdyfi's championship golf course at the western end of the village is also one of
its major attractions.
